World Tourism Day 2025: Igede Ekiti Set to Host the World

The historic town of Igede Ekiti has been officially announced as the venue for this year’s World Tourism Day celebration in Ekiti State. The iconic Source of Osun, located in Igede, will serve as the centerpiece of the global commemoration taking place on September 27, 2025.

The Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji, has facilitated a strategic collaboration to ensure the success of this landmark event. Acting on his directive, the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development has engaged key stakeholders, including the Chairman of Ifelodun/Irepodun Local Government, the Igede Progressive Union (IPU), and the Onigede of Igede in Council, to work in synergy for a world-class celebration.

In furtherance of this, the Director-General of the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development, Barrister Wale Ojo-Lanre, led his team on a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Ifelodun/Irepodun Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Stephen Oluwatuyi. The chairman, in turn, convened a high-level meeting of engagement and collaboration in his office.

Present at the meeting were Dr. Austin, President of Igede Progressive Union; Chief Esikin, who led three other Chiefs from the grove; and other community stakeholders. The discussions underscored the collective commitment of all parties to partner with the Bureau of Tourism in delivering a successful and memorable World Tourism Day.

Following the deliberations, Hon. Oluwatuyi led the Bureau’s delegation and other stakeholders on an inspection tour of the Osun Source in Igede. The delegation expressed satisfaction with the level of preparations and reaffirmed that the grove is being adequately primed for the global event.

The atmosphere in Igede is one of excitement and readiness, as the community proudly declares its preparedness to welcome the world. With the combined efforts of the state government, traditional institution, local government authorities, and community associations, the 2025 World Tourism Day in Igede promises to be an unforgettable celebration of heritage, culture, and nature.
