The National Agency for Food, Drug and Administration Control (NAFDAC) has sealed off a fish cold room in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, for allegedly selling rotten and unhealthy fish to the public.
According to NAFDAC’S coordinator in the state, Mrs. Stella Dosunu, the cold room was reported by a customer who purchased fish from the facility and discovered that it was unfit for consumption.
The owner of the cold room, identified as Olatunji, attributed the situation to the recent epileptic power supply in the area, which he claimed had affected the storage conditions of the fish.
However, NAFDAC officials were unconvinced by this explanation and proceeded to seal off the facility.
Some customers who gathered at the scene pleaded on behalf of the owner, asking for leniency and promising that the owner would take corrective measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
The action taken by NAFDAC is a significant step towards ensuring food safety and protecting public health in Ekiti State.
