Ekiti State University (EKSU) has categorically denied allegations made by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) that it raised tuition costs, especially for its program in medicine and surgery.
According to a NELFUND report, EKSU was one of several institutions accused of increasing fees by 20% to 521%. Specifically, EKSU was accused of raising Medicine and Surgery fees from N797,000 to N1.132 million, a 42% increase.
In a press release dated October 10, 2025, EKSU’s Management, through the Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs, categorically denied these allegations, stating that the university has not increased tuition fees.
EKSU emphasized its policy of maintaining consistent fees throughout a student’s academic tenure, with the fee structure approved for the 2024/2025 session still in place.
The university reiterated its commitment to supporting NELFUND’s mission to alleviate financial pressures on students and expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the loan scheme.

PRESS RELEASE
TUITION FEES, NOT INCREASED IN EKSU.
The attention of the Management of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti (EKSU), has been drawn to a report from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) naming EKSU as one of the institutions that had increased their tuition fees.
For the avoidance of doubt, the university is not in the habit of increasing its tuition fees arbitrarily. It is the policy of the university that whatever a student pays in 100 level is what he/she will pay throughout the period of studentship. NELFUND and indeed, members of the public are to note that the university has not increased its tuition fees, as the fee regimes approved by the Governing Council as of the 2024/2025 academic session are still in place and maintained.
Ekiti State University will continue to support NELFUND in its efforts to reduce the financial burdens being faced by students for the purpose of achieving academic sustainability.
The university Management appreciates the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for putting in place NELFUND to provide succour for Nigerian students.
