Ekiti Biodiversity Survey Project Celebrates Citizen Science and Conservation

The Ekiti Biodiversity Survey Project recently marked a significant milestone with a prize presentation ceremony held at the palace of the Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti on April 2. The event honored the highest number of observations on the iNaturalist app, a platform dedicated to promoting biodiversity in Ekiti State.

  • Prize Presentation: The Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti presented the publication “The Last Ice” as a prize, while Mr. Olatilu Oluwabunmi, Co-Founder of Green to Abundant Development & Empowerment Foundation (GADEF), presented a branded t-shirt to the winner, Mr. Ajayi Shadrach AKA Akata, who made the highest number of observations on the iNaturalist platform for Ikere Community.
  • Indigenous Trees Seedling Gift: Dr. Babajide Agboola, the project’s initiator, presented over 20 indigenous tree seedlings to be planted in the Olosunta community protected area, a gesture aimed at promoting reforestation and conservation efforts.
  • Support from the Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti: The HRM Oba Samuel Adejinmi Adu, the Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti, expressed his appreciation for the project’s efforts in promoting biodiversity and conservation, highlighting the significance of community involvement.
