She is currently serving in Lagos state (where Tinubu was once Governor) and has been instructed by the NYSC secretariat to withdraw the remarks.

The corps member rather took to social media and made an unofficial report to netizens who have since taken the matter to heart.

How it all began? The corps member TikTok under the username @talktoraye broke down in tears on the platform as she described her struggles with the soaring cost of market commodities. She said:

“If a lot of Nigerians come out and start speaking about what we are going through, maybe changes will be made in the government. I just want to say to our president, I don’t know if there is any other president that is as terrible as you, but you are such a terrible president.”

“So, I am coming from a supermarket where I went to get foodstuff, and everything has gone up again. It’s just like every single week, prices keep increasing. I want to know, what is the government doing about this increase? Is there going to be a particular time when prices will stop going up? Why am I going to get a crate of eggs and I’m told it costs N6,500? It doesn’t make any sense that eggs would cost that much. I literally remember when eggs cost N800. I am so overwhelmed because this is the first time I’ve stayed out of my family house.

“After I left the supermarket, I got home, and the security and NEPA bills have skyrocketed, doubling in price. It is insane. I can’t keep up with these bills. Every single penny I make, I am using it to pay bills. The crazy thing is, you want to go out with your friend, and Uber is N25,000. Why are things so expensive?

“To make it worse, Lagos stinks. Everywhere smells. What is the government doing about the smell? Being an NYSC Corper, there is nothing so beneficial about this scheme. The money I spend on transportation is much more than the allowance the federal government pays us. We should start calling out the government. For example, Tinubu, you are a terrible person. What are you doing to help our economy?”

Barely 24 hours after releasing the video calling President Tinubu “terrible,” she posted another video in which she was receiving calls from an NYSC official.

The official in the video was heard asking the Corp member, “Are you normal?” The voice continued, “Keep quiet and bring down the video you posted,” she said.

The incident has generated a lot of mixed reactions on social media. While some support her actions, others condemn such behavior, saying she has violated the NYSC code of conduct in her oath of allegiance to the scheme.

See some of the reactions below;

@Yomi Ajanaki: “This is a step in the right direction. Security agencies should start looking out for those unpatriotic and disrespectful Nigerians that are abusing the freedom of speech in Nigeria constitution by insulting the president of Nigeria on social media.
There’s nothing wrong with criticising the government for implementing policies that are having negative impacts on the people, but insulting and cursing the president is completely unacceptable.
Some Nigerians are just too disrespectful.”

@Akinpelu Opeyemi Saheed: “The first English I learned in camp was regimented, as a serving Corper, ur activities including your speech are (regimented) under control of the NYSC, your speech is against the code of conduct of the NYSC, don’t let anyone push you into trouble, everybody is aware that Nigeria is facing Economy hardship and Lagos life is not for the weak anytime. Serve in peace my dear, may God bless you”

@Abdulkareem Nuhu: “I know this girl will be arrested for stating the obvious truth. Bandits and Boko Haram are killing the same people Tinubu is governing”.

@Ojei Success Soni: “APC will now say that she’s being sponsored by the opposition. For them, anyone that speaks and expresses his or her feelings about the terrible insensitivity of the govt as regards the astronomical cost of living that has gone beyond the reach of over 90% of Nigerians is being sponsored by the opposition, especially Peter Obi”

@Abubakar Hamisu Salihu: “Is the government not terrib*le?. Why are they stressing an innocent girl??”

@Ntia Aniefiok: “Things are getting out there f hand under this administration. This government is terrible.
Those threatening the girl who expressed her concern which is equally everybody’s concern seem to be idiots.”

@Chikezie Charles Uche: “Nigeria is a terrible place to speak your mind. If she was in the senate she’d be suspended for 6 months. Then zombie sitting on the chair would say young girls like her would block opportunities for others”

@FA Aseye: “But she is still under NYSC, during the camp activities, they will still remind you about the type of politics you can. She could have applied common sense by not using abusing words till she completes her service year”

@Emmanuel Ayuba: “NYSC should be supportive ground for graduates, but it has become a tool use by the FG to suppress the graduates and make them hopeless. If they did not stop her from breathing, they are useless. Set of senseless people, is she the only person that complain? After failing to implement 77k minimum wage.”
