The AIG of Police has promised that justice will be served after a trigger happy police officer shot and killed Ifeoluwa Adekale in Ado Ekiti, right in front of the Oke-ila police station.
She was a vibrant and hardworking young woman from Ondo State, a nursing mother.
Ifeoluwa’s life was a testament to her resilience and determination. Despite struggling to make ends meet, she worked tirelessly as a station attendant at BOVAS Petrol Station and as a hotel worker at several hotels in Ado Ekiti.
On Thursday 2nd of January 2025, Ifeoluwa was returning from where she paid for her new house rent, a significant milestone in her life.
Tragically, her life was cut short, leaving behind a young child who will grow up without a mother.
According to eyewitnesses, the yet-to-be-named police officer was said to be celebrating the promotion of one of his colleagues in the station when he triggered the rifle in his hand.
It was learnt that the deceased who was standing at a shop opposite the station was hit by the bullet and died.
A source said, ” The young woman was across the road in front of a saloon when the gun of one of the officers attached to another unit of the Ekiti State Police Command but present in the station accidentally discharged and hit her.
“She was rushed to a nearby hospital but couldn’t make it and was confirmed dead.”
When contacted, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Adeniran Akinwale confirmed the incident to Tribune Online.
Akinwale who was recently promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police, said the officer involved has been identified and disarmed, adding that he would be interrogated and tried in line with the regulations of the force.
According to him, ” It is a very sad and unfortunate situation a few hours into the new year and I want to encourage the family to take heart and I sympathize with them.
“But I can confirm to you that the officer involved in this unfortunate incident has been disarmed and locked up in the cell for the necessary room trial and very soon he will be prosecuted accordingly.”
While sympathising with the family of the deceased over the incident, the AIG assured them that justice would be served on the matter.
