Ekiti Government Hosts Christmas Party to Conclude Training for Special Education’s Teaching, Non-Teaching Staff

…Honours Outstanding Teachers, Therapists

A joyful Christmas party marked the conclusion of a three-day training programme organized in collaboration with Premium Trust Bank for teachers, therapists, administrative staff, and other personnel in the Ekiti State special education sector.

The event, held at the Government Special School for Persons with Physical and Intellectual Disabilities, Ido, brought together all the teachers and professionals from the three Government Special Schools in the state.

In her welcome address, the Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Princess Adetoun Agboola, emphasized the importance of applying the knowledge gained during the training in handling children with special needs more effectively.

Hon. Agboola also emphasized that as part of the State Government’s commitment to special education, 74 support staff had been converted to permanent employees. Nurses, Therapists and more teachers had been employed, while renovation of classrooms and hostels in the special schools were not left out.

She reiterated that Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji would continue to prioritize the welfare of People with Disabilities.

While reacting, the Director of Schools, Mr Bayode Ogunmola, who represented the Honourable Commissioner for Education, commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his efforts in improving the special education sector in the state.

He attributed the implementation of the minimum wage and regular salary payments to the governor’s passion for the welfare of all Ekiti workers.

Ogunmola encouraged the staff to remain dedicated to their duties and assured them that their hard work would not go unrewarded.

He also urged everyone working in the Special Education sector to learn from the Special Adviser’s determination to transform Special Education in Ekiti State to international standards.

The SSA on Rehabilitation and Mental Health, Mrs. Funmilayo Fatoba, in her goodwill message, described Gov. Biodun Oyebanji as a PWD-friendly Governor.

She appreciated the State Government for putting the community of People with Disabilities on the global map.

Mrs Fatoba noted that the collaboration between the Office of Special Education and Social Inclusion and the Ministry of Education had brought about significant changes to the Special Schools.

In his submissions, the SSA on Social Inclusion, Alhaji Suleiman Fattah, also commended Gov. Oyebanji, stating that People with Disabilities have never had it this good in the past.

He expressed confidence that Governor Oyebanji would continue to put their interest in mind to ensure that their welfare and well-being remain a top priority.

Alhaji Fattah further encouraged educators to remain diligent in their duties and wished them greater rewards.

The event featured Prize-giving of cash gifts to outstanding support staff, music and playlet presentations from the staff of the three Government Special Schools, and was attended by Directors from the Ekiti State Office of Disability Affairs and other state government officials.
