The Black mother named Alex, who has a white-skinned daughter named Pudge Pudge born via IVF, faced public scrutiny and skepticism about her child’s paternity due to their starkly different skin tones.
This led to an incident at a mall where she was almost reported to security, prompting her to take a DNA test which confirmed Pudge Pudge as her biological child.
This story has led to similar revelations: ‘As a black mom with a “white passing” child living in a primarily white area in Georgia, this happens every day,’ another black mum said online.
The DNA test proved it was her child, and despite some backlash, the couple have received an outpouring of support since sharing their story.
A black mother with a white-skinned daughter had to get a DNA test after people questioned if the child was really hers.
Mom-of-three Alex, whose husband Rob is white, welcomed daughter Pudge Pudge, 2, via IVF.
The couple said they were ‘surprised’ by how ‘different’ Pudge Pudge looked, especially compared to their other two children, who are half-caste.
‘I was super surprised,’ Alex told Truly. ‘Her ears weren’t even dark. They were really, really white!’
Due to the difference in their skin tones, Alex said that she gets ‘a lot of negativity’ from both trolls online and people in real life.
In one situation , Alex said that she was shopping at the mall with Pudge Pudge when she was stopped by a staffer, who said ‘things didn’t look right’ and threatened to call security on her.
‘Rob ended up handling the whole thing for me and essentially telling her to leave us alone,’ she said.
‘I should be able to hang out with my child the way I want to!’
Alex said that she’s even received criticism from black people, who have attacked her for being in an interracial relationship.
‘I’ve seen people that appear to be black online that say I shouldn’t have that white man’s child, all kinds of things,’ she said.
Alex has also been accused of ‘renting’ Pudge Pudge as a ‘content baby’ for social media.
She says she had to do a DNA test to prove that Pudge was her child.
‘We decided to do the DNA test because she was so white and we did use IVF to get pregnant with her and mistakes do happen,’ she explained.
