EKSU GIVES CLARIFICATION ON GUNMEN ATTACK CLAIMS

The attention of the Management of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, has been drawn to some highly controversial online publications alleging that gunmen attacked students of Ekiti State University and the late response of the security agencies to the mid-night raid, where many phones and laptops were carted away, in the students’ (off campus) hostels.

It should be noted that the actual incident that occurred was a reported case of burglary and forceful dispossession of students’ mobile phones by suspected miscreants, in some off campus hostels, which is being investigated by the police and this is not in any way related to the alleged attacks on students by gunmen. It is, however, important to inform our students and the general public that the disturbing situation has now been brought under control and normalcy has since returned in the area.

Upon the receipt of the information, Iworoko Divisional Police Headquarters and the University security operatives swung into action and arrested one of the suspects on Monday, 30th March, 2026 at about 0230hrs. Items recovered from him are; a face mask and a motorcycle suspected to have been used to perpetrate the act. He has been transferred to the State Headquarters for thorough investigation, possible arrest of the fleeing suspects and prosecution.

The University management, in collaboration with other government security agencies, have since intensified security measures in the affected parts of school area. The measures which include but not limited to constant day and night security patrol as well as surveillance, by the officers of the relevant security agencies, such as the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Patrol and Guard, Iworoko, DPO Iworoko and EKSU security operatives.
The University, with the support of the Ekiti State Government, under the purposeful leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, has taken immediate steps to immediately address the situation and to ensure that future occurrence is abated.

The University management reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property within the institution. Students and the general public are however, urged to go about their normal daily activities without fear, as normalcy has since returned in the area.
