I observe all protocols, please. I have been constrained to write this open letter to you all because, apart from just two of you, I don’t have your reliable personal contact details at my disposal. Reliable reports from home paint terrible pictures of the federal roads in our dear Ekiti State.
Apart from my personal experience on the roads, most especially, the Itawure/Aramoko/Ijero-Ekiti axis, reports constantly reaching me from home paint terrible pictures of Federal roads in Ekiti.A couple of months ago, when he appeared on the monthly Ekiti Diaspora Relations Town Hall Engagement Programme, the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, took the pains to address the constraints on the part of his government in attending to the federal roads.
Apart from having the State roads to attend to, the non-readiness of the Federal Ministry of Works to reimburse the States for money spent on such roads without authorisation and or approval has not helped matters. I remember former Governor Kayode Fayemi also relating all efforts made by him to get the roads fixed during the tenure of Babatunde Raji Fashola as Minister for Works, all to no avail.I also read the exchanges between Babatunde Raji Fashola and the Governor of Ogun State in relation to the Sango/Ọta Road when the former Minister vehemently warned the Ogun State government NOT to touch their (Federal Government’s) roads! I continue to wonder why it has been herculean getting the Federal Government to look in the way of fixing Federal government roads in the States controlled by the same political party.
What can the excuses be? That the people in the affected States did not vote for them or they should simply be taken for granted? Ekiti roads are no longer ‘naturally tarred’ o!I therefore want to seize this opportunity to appeal to all representatives of Ekiti State at the National Assembly to use your clout towards ensuring that the bad roads are at least made motorable. ‘Kò yẹ ká fi èèyàn joyè Àwòdì kó ma le è gb’adiyẹ o’! God bless you both jointly and severally for making the fixing of the affected roads a task that must be done.
